Be Mine.

Kate Spade Shanghai Takeout Bag

Be Mine.

A story about love lost.

Specifically, the things I didn’t buy that haunt me. One thing in particular: the Kate Spade Shanghai Takeout bag.

A very much appropriate story, considering, we met a year ago, during last February’s New York Fashion Week.

The first time I saw the Kate Spade’s bag resembling a Chinese takeout box, it was during the brand begging us to live colorfully’s Fall 2014 collection. I wondered if it would just be for the presentation or would it be actually available for retail.

It was.

The bag reminded me of a down-to-earth version of Chanel’s Take Away Box bag. And maybe that’s why this hurts, maybe, because it was within reach. But there was no way that I could actually justify spending the retail price when it became available.

$350. Ouch.

Especially for something that I couldn’t eat or live in.

But I would visit it periodically. And once, my trigger finger got a little excited during their Friends & Family sale, but stalled when I realized the website would host a “secret” sale—there’s one going on right now, fyi. See what I mean?

I went to visit the bag again. I saw a street style snapshot of a girl wearing the bag during the couture shows in Paris last month, sending me back to check on it. I didn’t know her but I knew that bag.

It wasn’t there.

Now, I can’t stop thinking about all the ways I would have worn it: as a crossbody with a leather dress in the spring or as a clutch with jeans ripped at the knee and a silk blouse on the weekend. Being cheeky, actually wearing it to a pickup an order of wings and fries.

I just know you would have looked amazing in my apartment. I could have worked you into the display so nicely. We would have had a nice life together.

Will you be my Valentine, Kate Spade Shanghai Takeout bag? I promise to love you forever, ever.

Is this where eBay comes into play? For situations like this?  How do you all recover when this happens to you?

This purse is so cayuuute! I can’t definitely see you wearing it. I like the idea of wearing it with jeans and a silk blouse.
