Day 4: My Favorite Book

Day 4: My Favorite Book

For a good fashion read I turn to one of Nina Garcia’s books, my new obsession. But my absolute favorite book to read is Their Eyes Were Watching God, and interestingly enough, the fashion in the book played an important role that was not lost on me. I love way Zora Neale Hurston used the main character, Janie’s wardrobe to reinforce details in the plot and about Janie herself. Granted, the book was written and set in the late 1930’s but I think that’s why I enjoy the book from a fashion perspective. Hurston used Janie’s wardrobe to illustrate her the era in which the book was written in, her status and the changes that took place within.

Whether we realize it or not, we all end up on a journey to love ourselves completely and wholly like Janie and I hope that your wardrobe plays a supporting role in the story of your life.
