On Thursday, my mother and I traveled to New York City to help Polish Bar of Brooklyn owner Tricia Lee Riley celebrate her fab five anniversary of helping folks get pretty. Before we headed to Brooklyn for the festivities, we killed some time in the City.

We did a little shopping, a phone may or may not have been lost on Macy’s 6th Floor shoe department, and we rode in one of those man-peddled carriages. What do you call it? When a man on a bike peddles and you sit in the carriage behind him?

Um, yeah. Homeboy must have forgot there wasn’t a shield of metal around us the way he was cutting off buses! We had to hold on for dear life!

After we finally got off that man’s carriage, we had dinner and then headed into Brooklyn for the rooftop soiree.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Tricia Lee for Vibe VIXEN and Coco & Creme. She was a lot of fun to talk to and truly inspiring. So when Renae of In Her Shoes mentioned that she would be producing an event to commemorate this milestone, I knew it would be a good time.

And it was! It was a perfect night for a rooftop party: a nice breeze, gorgeous guests, and ‘New York’s Best Dressed DJ’ DJ CEO (if you’ve read Demetria Lucas’ A Belle in Brooklyn– ‘him’) provided the soundtrack for the evening.

Can I just tell you how much I heart Glamazon Jessica? She is my editor many, many times over, she’s amazing, oh, and she’s in the September issue ofEssence. You should grab a copy 🙂

The beautiful Renae was kind enough to invite my mother also. She’s read about her through our adventures on my blog and thought she might get a kick out of coming. Thanks Renae– she did!

The night was great and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate you Tricia Lee, than with a toast to five years of fab! Here’s to polishing off the next five.
