20 Sep Spring/Summer 2011 Trend Guide
I realize the ridiculousness of this post, considering that we are barely into Fall but New York Fashion Week just ended. There were a few trends that were hard to ignore.
So let’s get into them, shall we?
Neons
Nanette Lepore, Christian Sirano and J.Crew sent neon combinations down
the runway that I just couldn’t get enough of.
Cutouts
Fun cutouts were all over runways like Sophie Theallet, The Row and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Sophisticated way to give a peek of skin, no?
Leather
Leather will follow us into the warmer months. Not just in terms of jackets either like at Badgley Mishcka, but leather detailing like shown on Stephen Burrows, Altuzarra, and Derek Lam’s runways.
Skittles Colored Combos
If neons are your style, the skittle colored combos are a subtle alternative thanks to Luca Luca, Alice + Olivia, and Chris Benz.
Keep reading to see what other trends we can look forward too.
Coral
Orange–specifically coral– was huge this summer and will continue to be hot next spring like what we saw on Sophie Theallet, Badgley Mischka and Kimberly Ovitz’s models.
Long Shorts
Ladies who don’t like Daisy Dukes rejoice, longer shorts will be all the rage next spring thanks to Diane von Furstenberg, DKNY, and Tess Gibson.
Stripes
Stripes are typically expected for Spring especially in nautical colors but the stripes that pumped down Wes Gordon, 10 Crosby Derek Lam, and Tadashi Shoji’s Spring runways are brighter and bolder than before.
Jumpsuits
I still have a chance to get some wear out of my silk jumpsuit I’ve never taken to the tailor because looking at Luca Luca, Tess Gibson, and Anna Sui’s runways shows me the trend will be here to stay.
Florals
Remember in The Devil Wears Prada and Miranda was like,” Florals for Spring. How original?” I know that’s how everyone feels but the florals that came down the runway were nothing like what we’ve seen before thanks to Badgley Mischka, Richard Chai-Love, Alice + Olivia.
Anoraks
Have you noticed I have been having an affair with an anorak of my own? Looks like we will continue our love into the Spring according to looks created by Tracy Reese, Gap, and T by Alexander Wang.
Muted Colors
After all the prints and bright colors it was refreshing to see the muted color palettes that Cushnie et Ochs, Calvin Klein, and The Row used for their Spring 2012 collections.
Leopard
I love any and everything leopard so I am super excited that this print is no longer considered ‘Fall.’ I love this trend and can’t wait to incorporate it next spring.
See anything you like? Will you be trying any of these trends out, any that you are already a fan of?
