I love the understated sophistication of matching your nail polish and lipstick. I get the urge to try this every time I flip through a J.Crew catalog and see the model’s orangey-red tips and lips. Or when I watch reruns of Mad Men on Netflix.

Using my iPhone to blot more of Revlon’s Va Va Violet on my lips.

You can modernize this trend by wearing an edgy dark color. Like purple, and matching it to your lipstick. I decided to give it a try with Revlon’s Va Va Violet on my lips and OPI’s Siberian Nights on my nails.

Though the lipstick is frighteningly dark in the tube, it applies quite sheer and can be opaque when layered. I’m just not ready for full on vampy lips just yet.

And if you aren’t either, I have a couple suggestions below that vary from dark to nude.
