5 Style Lessons Courtesy of VH1’s Show, Styled By June

Here on The City, we are all about cultivating personal style, luckily, we can look to some of our favorite celebrities for a few style lessons.

I’m a bit ashamed to say that I lost my mojo when it came to writing ‘5 Style Lessons,’ but June Ambrose has brought the series back to life. Especially after watching her reality show on VH1, Styled by June.

With June’s infectious personality and love for fashion, it’s hard not to believe in the magic that comes from simply changing your clothing and what it can do for you and your confidence.

June is just perfection, isn’t she? I’d quite honestly buy whatever it is she selling. I love her skin, her voice, her look and most important the energy that radiates.

Not that I (and I’m sure you, either) need to be reminded but after watching her at work during her show, I realized that there are five style lessons we all can all learn a little somethin’ somethin’ from.

1. Fashion Is About Role Playing

Dress for the life you want to create not the one that you have. We’ve seen this with Blair Waldorf but we actually got to see the transformation last night with Mischa Barton. Who do you feel like being today? Let your style dictate it for you.

2. You Can Reinvent Yourself With Fashion

You can change your life by changing clothes. Literally. June outfits Mischa in a new dress and all of a sudden she is ready to face the paparazzi and sit front row at fashion shows when she was scared to face the press. See the power of fashion?

3. Don’t Get Stuck On A ‘Look’

Always have options. How many times have you been so set on an outfit only to put it on and realize that it doesn’t work. You don’t like it, it isn’t flattering. Whatever the case, you need something to wear and you hadn’t planned on having a back-up. Mischa’s issue getting the zipper all the way up showed me never to bank on one ‘look.’ Have options.

4. Fashion Should Give You Confidence

Somewhere along the lines, we got this idea that we should be willing to suffer for the look. No. You shouldn’t have to fidget, or pull anything up constantly. Your outfit should give you the feeling that you can take over the world. Or at least conquer the day’s to-do list. And most importantly, have fun. Right?

5. Fashion Should Make People Want To Know You

Last night I was talking to one of my blogger boos about being the total package when it comes to your brand. If no one knew anything about your capabilities professionally– would they want to work with you when they saw you? Would you still have hold the same credibility? Whenever you leave the house, you should be representing your brand. And your look should be inviting to those that you encounter.

I am living for June. LIVING. I am so excited for this peek into her world. I can not describe how good it feels to see her maintaining her sense of self and integrity while building her empire. So good.

Did you see the first episode of Style by June? What did you think?
