25 Apr 5 Style Lessons Courtesy of Kerry Washington’s Character Olivia Pope on ABC’S Scandal
Here on The City, we are all about cultivating personal style, luckily, we can look to some of our favorite celebrities for a few style lessons.
1. It’s Okay To Embrace Your Femininity.
It’s a good thing Olivia Pope doesn’t let her job dictate her look because if she did, she would look ultra masculine. But instead she isn’t afraid to wear flattering pieces and embraces blush with a little color on her lips. It is perfectly okay to look (and think, er, Steve Harvey) like a lady.
2. You Don’t Have To Be So Loud.
Everything surrounding Olivia is nondescript. Where she works, where she lives. Even the way that she dresses is luxe in an understated way. Sometimes, I think that you have to stomp to be heard when breaking new ground but walking softly gets the job done. And gracefully, I might add.
3. Luxe Is In The Details.
Our girl ‘Liv is all about giving us low key glam. For instance, a gorgeous coat, a delicate necklace draped just so or a dainty watch. She even wears luxe materials: silk camis and cashmere looking coats. Who else embraces luxe on the low?
4. Find A Color Palette That Works.
Olivia is usually sporting muted colors that again embrace her femininity. I’m sure that was a conscious decision on her part to offset her no nonsense attitude. I like to balance things out with colors, too, if that makes sense. How do you like to use color in your wardrobe?
5. Be Ready For Whatever–Literally.
Olivia needs to be ready for whatever at a moment’s notice so she needs a look that can take her there plus or minus a few pieces. It’s actually a good way to dress. My mom used to–she does, actually–used to ask what if you have to walk somewhere? Or the car gets a flat? Usually because I had on super high heels without a coat. Kind of like that. What will you do if plans suddenly change?
Who else is LIVING for Olivia/Kerry? I love her and this show! I cannot wait to see the new episode tomorrow. Will you be watching?
