Guest Post: Perfectly Polished with Eclechick

Heeeey nail polish/nail art lovers! I’m Sereeda here from eclechick.com. I’m super excited about sharing my tiny obsession, nail art; with you all while Channing’s away in Paris (Kanye pronunciation). Shocked, happy, scared…just a few things that came to mind when Chan (yeah, that’s what I call her, we roll like that) asked me to take over…um, do some guest posts for her Perfectly Polished segment.

Channing has amazing style, a bubbly, fun personality and a wicked polish collection. Which made us click instantly in the blogosphere, it seemed like we always ended up purchasing the same nail polishes or we would be thinking of buying the same color; polish buddies for life! I love Chan’s Perfectly Polished segments especially her way of showing her phalanges off. My way is a little different with a twist, step-by-step pictures of DIY nail art!

Now I’m not a pro, but I’ve been known to do some mean dotting on nails. Which leads me to this week’s Perfectly Polished: Cotton Candy Dots.

Before we get down to the nail art gritty, let me introduce you to my little at-home-mani secret weapons. Chip Skip by OPI, apply before basecoat (it prevents chipping and extends the life of your polish). Flawless Basecoat by butter LONDON, the best basecoat I’ve EVER used (it dries matte and strengthens so you can use it without any topcoat color too). Fast Dry Top Coat by Seche Vite, best top coat in the world, PERIOD! Drip Dry drops by OPI, apply 2 drops on each nail and your drying time is cut in half.

Let the nail art BEGIN! First you’ll need 1 paper towel, a piece of aluminum foil, a dotting tool (you can use a nail or a bobby pin) and at least 3-4 nail polish colors. For this DIY I used deborah lippmann – Tiny Dancer, nails inc. – Baker Street, NARS X Thakoon – Kutki and OPI – If You Moust You Moust.

Apply your basecoat then apply your base color. In this case my base color is Tiny Dancer, a nice sheer pink.

Next up you’ll need your aluminum foil and dotting tool. Place your paper towel under your aluminum foil, get the nail polish colors you haven’t used and remove the top. Form polish puddles for each color. Keep your polish close, you’ll need to replenish each puddle throughout the process because the puddle will begin to dry out and get tacky.

Make your first dot with your tool in the bottom corner of your nail. I used If You Moust You Moust.

Make your second dot at an angle to the left little above your first dot. I used Kutki.

Make your third dot at an angle to the right a little above your first dot, almost making a triangle. I used Baker Street.

Continue the dotting action, alternating colors, mainly concentrating in the bottom half of the nail at an angle. I ended up with 9 dots on each nail.

Wait for about 10 minutes, allowing your dots to completely dry before applying your top coat. This prevents the colors from your dots dragging around on your base color.

And voila, you have a Cotton Candy Dot mani!

This DIY was easy right? Trust me if I can do it, you can do it! Switch it up; try different color combinations, neon colors, dark colors, nudes…endless possibilities.

Thank you so much for allowing me to share my little tutorial, hopefully I didn’t bore you to death. Swing by and check me out!

Thanks again Channing for allowing me to share my love on Channing In The City! Have fun for me and takes lots of
pictures.

xx Sereeda

*Channing politely butts in* Yaaas, ‘Reeda! I love this. Shame on me for STILL not getting a dotting tool. I’ll do better. Be sure to visit Eclechick.com, lots of good stuff like this tutorial.
