29 Aug 5 Style Lessons Courtesy of Gwen Stefani
Here on The City, we are all about cultivating personal style, luckily, we can look to some of our favorite celebrities for a few style lessons.
1. Wear Your Interests on Your Sleeve
I love that everything that Gwen Stefani is interested in, she fully immersing herself in it. From her children’s names to her dressing like a Harajuku doll. Does anyone else think Nicki Minaj should be happy Gwennie didn’t take a page out of Lil Kim’s plastic book and tell her to pay homage to every chance she got? Because she definitely hi-jacked her Harajuli steez, yes? The point is, let your interests influence your look.
2. Pick an Era and Get Dressed There
Speaking of interests, don’t you love how Gwen decided that she one day she would be a 40s pin-up girl one day and a 20s flapper the next with headpieces? I always say that I love the silhouettes of the 20s, I could stand to take a page out of her book. What about you?
3. Give Good Face
Gwen is so well-known for her red lip, that when she wants to go
incognito, she just doesn’t apply it. I mean, with her platinum hair and dramatic lips, it’s hard not to give good face. It makes me want to wear a strong lip with everything and–considering that my brows need Jesus–keep my eyebrows on point. What about you?
4. Evolve. Constantly
As long as we ‘known’ Gwen, she has always reinvented herself. She was the punk rocker in flannel, then the 40s pin-up glamour girl, eccentric and now a designer. I love watching her grow. And all the while staying true to herself. Did you see No Doubt on Good Morning, America earlier this month? It was like nothing changed!
5. Live Your Brand
I know it gets a little sickening to keep reading how everyone is a brand so you should do this or you should do that, but we all really are. What are you saying not only with your clothing but your lifestyle? Gwen’s brand is one that we trust and believe in because she has stayed true to her interests. Isn’t it inspiring to watch someone whole-heartedly go after their dreams? Are you?
What do you think of Gwen Stefani’s style? Writing this post made me fall in love with her all over again. I’m going to spritz myself in L.A.M.B and listen to “The Sweet Life.”
