05 Mar Empire State of Style
Saturday morning, I snuck back to Harrisburg for a funeral. It’s a shame that it takes something so sad, like my Uncle’s passing for my family to get together but acknowledging the problem is the first step to fixing it, right?
Anyway.
Being home is always such a weird experience. I’m a believer that your town, city, even, coast, is a huge influence in the way that you dress. Like, at the funeral I just mentioned, there was so. much. fur.
On the women’s hats, on the wrist of their jackets, full on fur coats, my aunt, who lives in Napa, leaned over to me and whispered all of this fur could never fly in California. Not because of the heat, but because of PETA. They might throw red paint on you. I thought the same of New York.
Funny thing is, my grandmom (Hi Russell!!) has this fur coat that I have my eye on, I want to get it shortened and wear it. I should be safe from PETA because it’s vintage, right? I think New York, is the place to take a risk like that. In Harrisburg, everyone follows the same formula–it was clear most of the ladies at the church shared the same hat man.
I think that what I like best about New York style. While there is clear favored aesthetic, very sleek and polished, there isn’t one way to look nice. I have to admit, I’m kind of excited to how being in this city shapes my style as I get older. What shapes your style or makes you different? Dr. Pepper wants to know and celebrate you with this sweepstakes–looks pretty cool if you ask me.
Where are you from? Do you think your area has a ‘look?’ Does it influence your style?
With delicious one of a kind taste and zero calories, Diet Dr. Pepper is as unique as you are. We know it’s a long road to get to who we’re meant to be. Along the way, we make choices, we make mistakes, we get up, and we keep going. And like an amazing work of art, we become one of a kind. At Dr. Pepper, we celebrate all that makes us an original, from your unique style to adventurous spirit. To check out more one of a kind stories, watch our films at www.youtube.com/drpeppervideos.

Posted at 18:48h, 07 MarchSo sorry about your loss, Channing. I’m glad you’re finding something to smile about, though 🙂
It’s interesting to read that NY has a “favored aesthetic”… I would think it would be a motley assortment of just whatever, like zero rules. Are most people in sheath dresses and tailored suits?

I see what you mean about you see everything, and you do, but it’s like polished if that makes sense. Even the ‘undone’ looks done for the most part. Not so much in sheath dresses and tailored suits but in little things like their blowouts and nails or a good pair of shoes. Am I making sense?

Posted at 13:27h, 08 MarchOh, ok: I get it. They’re pulled together and pay attention to the details. Gotta love NYC!

Posted at 14:36h, 08 MarchYes, exactly! That’s what I mean. I still feel like there is a favored ‘look,’ they way LA is all blond hair and big boobs, I just can’t put my finger on NY’s yet.
