Yesterday was a good day. I put something cute together quickly and was able to get out of the apartment on time. The sun was shining and my hands didn’t immediately get ashy the minute I walked out of the door because it was so cold. I pulled my gloves on anyway, feeling like a lady. Charging along to work, my heels clacking on the pavement.

Further proof this was going to be my day? The M79 bus was waiting for me when I got to the stop. And, I get a seat. I’m really feeling myself now. I reach in my bag and pull out my new Maybelline Color Whisper by Color Sensational lipstick in A Plum Prospect. A glossy purple that matches my gloves. I apply it before getting off at the Lexington stop and heading into the 6 train.

Yall. No joke, the most beautiful brown man is getting off the train and walking up the stairs as I’m coming down them. He’s wearing a suit and has on a peacoat. Have you ever seen a man not look amazing in a peacoat? He’s carrying dry cleaning. Has good thick brows (I’m weird about men and eyebrows, are you?). Sounds like I got a good look, right? That’s exactly why this happened: just as I was about to smile and say hi, I almost tripped down the stairs. In front of said brown man.

Knocked the cool all the way out of my walk. I kept my head down and just about ran down the stairs and stood on the train platform and waited for my train. The one time, I feel like I look presentable heading into the train station, wearing lipstick, looking like I mean business, I trip.

Lawd.

But at least my lipstick looked nice, right? I should have smiled anyway.
