09 Apr Gone With the Wind Fabulous
My mom came to visit last weekend.
Pause for a huge smile.
It was nice. She brought some of my things from home, so I could start moving out of my suitcases and start feeling like I belong. Here’s thing though, she had been talking about this bookshelf/set of drawers/cube thing from Costco that she thought was the answer to all of my space needs. She casually mentions that the thing is pretty heavy, I brushed it off. I carried my suitcase–that weighed 60 pounds–up those stairs several times after trips back home. I’ve got the arms to prove it. This shelf thing, I told her, would be nothing.
Except I see that it’s so big she had to tie the truck down because it couldn’t close. I tried myself to move it out of the car to put it with the pile of stuff that had to go up the stairs. That box basically told me ‘nawl.’ I pretend to not have even been trying to get it out of the car to take up some stuff and enlist my roommate’s guns–she works out daily, surely she’s stronger than I am. On my way down the stairs, I can hear my mom directing someone, I peer over the stairwell into the courtyard and see two boys carrying the box. They bring it all the way up to the fourth floor where I live and only had to stop one time to catch their breath.
This is what my mom does. She comes in and takes over. I don’t even know where she found them. But they brought that thing up and wouldn’t even take the money she offered.
Needless to say, she left New York pretty impressed. I don’t think her 10over10 manicure, lunch at Bergdorf, the consequential fondling that happened at the Dior counter after said lunch or the resulting Spring 2013 purchases, dinner at Eataly or her experience with DryBar, hurt either.
You did me proud, New York. You did me proud. I’m always bragging about you and you showed your stuff. And she loves my roommate, too! I think we might have something here, New York. You won my mommy over.
p.s. How about this wind not letting my blow out be great?

Among me and my husband we’ve owned extra MP3 gamers over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (typical & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few a long time I’ve settled down to one line of players.

I feel technological innovation just makes it even worse. Now there is a channel to never ever care, now there won’t be a opportunity for them to find.
