21 May That Girl That Used to Blog
Hey guys. I miss you–like eveeeeerrrryyydayyyy.
Remember me? That girl who used to blog?
I went home to Harrisburg two weekends ago for Mother’s Day. Nothing puts things in perspective like sleeping in the bed you grew up in. I notice weird things like my comforter at home is quieter–my comforter in New York is down, thus noisy–and that I freaking fall asleep the minute my head hits the pillow. It’s hard to believe a few months ago, I didn’t see the inside of my eyelids until like 3:30am minimum. I swore, I still do, I think because it’s so quiet, that I get my best stuff late at night. My grandmom says because that’s when God has your (my) attention.
My mom asked me what I like the least about living in New York. I told her nothing. I don’t mind that I don’t have an elevator and live on the 4th floor. It’s a landmark building, I’ll take it. Or that I’m finally broke down and got a grandma cart so I don’t have to worry about how much I can carry when I go grocery shopping. All this walking and having to carry my weight in groceries or suitcases is really helping to keep my arms toned. My legs look better, too. I feel like all of this is just a reflection of what’s going on inside. New York makes you tough. I feel stronger as a result.
She asked me what I liked the most, and that was a little harder to answer. I like that if I have a bad day, I can walk by Tiffany’s and dream of all the charms I’m going to add to my bracelet. Or walk by Bergdorf Goodman’s windows. The fact that I can walk into the store on the corner and buy Chinese Vogue if I wanted to. That I’m here and can afford my rent. That I’m here period and that’s enough.
It has been such an amazing three months. I can’t wait to see what this summer holds. Or the woman that I will continue to be grow into, in this city. Most of all, I’m just thankful to my mother, for giving me the courage to be here. So there are no amount of gifts in the world that can make up for the one she gave me. The ability to believe in myself.
Happy ( Suuuuuper Belated on the blog, LOL) Mother’s Day, Mom!
