Where Everybody Knows Your Name

Where Everybody Knows Your Name

… For me that place is Drybar. The Murray Hill location.

I’m not going to lie, as a brown woman, who has low self-esteem when her hair doesn’t look good, Drybar is where it’s at for me. One of the very first things that made this city feel like home for me. They know my name.

I’ll master a twist-out in the near future but for right now, it’s just me and my Drybar, getting all ready to play (I think I just sang you a Barney song??).

By play, I mean, mix prints.

I’ve wanted to brave this trend for quite some time now but I wasn’t sure that I could pull it off. Then my mom bought me this J.Crew skirt and vente-privee sent this Splendid striped top over.

When I saw that skirt hanging as I hit snooze, I thought could I? Then I stepped out the shower with 30 minutes until I had to be actually inside the 96th Street station waiting for the 6 train–I thought, I absolutely will.

Splendid touts that its basics are chic yet comfy and a must-have for summer and go with just about any outfit.

I’m going to agree.

There is a Splendid sale going on right now on vente-privee. I’m already picturing how I’ll wear this dress. The sale ends on Friday, May 22nd at 9 a.m. with price 70% off.

I also can’t get enough of this white denim Old Navy jacket. It doesn’t hurt that it has my nickname on the back. I made this at a DIY Old Navy event last week–I thought it was childish and I would just display it somewhere in my apartment. But then that called out to me too this morning.

I realize that when you pile on the prints and colors, it sort of makes it easy for someone to remember your name… but, I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I like it. Just don’t call me Shannon.

… Whatever’s clever, right?

I’m not going to lie, I was actually a little nervous and felt kind-of self-conscious on the train. And then I got over it because EYE actually liked the way it looked.

Confidence is everything and rocked it! I’m a firm believer in wearing what you like, not what others think is nice.
