A couple months ago, I got an email from DeBorah with the subject line Hair Secrets.

I’m not going to lie, I was prepared to feel embarrassed before I even read her email. I was ashamed that I still don’t know how to master doing my own hair in its natural state… and that I’ve only really tried once and gave up when I didn’t get an, um, favorable response at work.

DeBorah said that she’d been natural for a little over a year and would like to take her hair out of protective styling to wear her hair straight.

KAY, perfect.

This I can handle considering that I don’t really have a routine, unless you count going to Drybar every two weeks. In between appointments, I rub Carol’s Daughter Monoi Oil Sacred Strengthening Serum on my palms and smooth it on my hair. When Aveeno Pure Renewal dry shampoo isn’t going to cut it, I use Aveda Control Paste Finishing Paste, to tame my edges. The dirtier my hair gets, the harder it gets to hard my curl pattern. I believe this is referred to as “reverting.”

I still won’t allow my self to put heat on my hair, which, is why I’ve been trying really hard to master flexirods.

I went to DryBar the night before I left for Ford’s Further with Ford Conference on a mission. I needed clean hair, but most importantly, I needed soft waves that I could finally myself.

You guise.

I did it. I learned how to flexi rod my hair. I know this isn’t a big deal, you know, in life, but considering, I was pretty pleased with myself. Now, I feel like get more bang for my blowout!

I can use the flexirods for a week or so, and then, when my hair gets a little to dirty to manipulate (or I get lazy), I can wrap it and keep all of the body.

It might be all in my head (hehe, or, on my head) but I felt like I looked more pulled together for this conference. It’s amazing what hair can do, right?
