I can’t hang.

I mean, I can. But not the way I used to.

On Friday I went to dinner with my girlfriends. A catch up session that turned into us closing the restaurant down (if I recall, correctly).

The drinks were two for one.

And by that I mean, the waiter brought two drinks out at a time for the price of one. So I think I had four.

Which sounds like a lot (or not enough, depending), but really, it’s quite normal for a New York outing among friends. I don’t know if it’s because I didn’t finish all of my Grigliata Di Pollo pizza or what, but those drinks hit me hard. Just in time for me to meet my boyfriend.

He got me home, made me wash my face and then let me sleep.

“It’s 7 a.m. I thought you said you wanted to do pictures.”

“I do, I just…” rolling back over.

And I did want to do pictures. Aubrey Hepburn’s birthday was on Monday and I wrote something that I wanted specific pictures for. But after that night, I just knew the pictures were not going to be the best. My face was going to look puffy and I didn’t have it in me to smile.

“You know,” he stated and I could feel the judgment before he said anything.

Fast-forward the lecture he gave me, McDonald’s to bring me back to life, and a nap (but still no pictures) I finally got it in me to leave the house for Jhenell’s pop-up shop. Dressed in all black.

Plus, I had packed outfits for later that night, and the next day, and maybe something to get a post out of. Look at me being all productive!

“You look so glamorous,” my boyfriend said. “But some sunglasses would make it look like you don’t care.”

I’m usually nervous to wear sunglasses, I don’t feel like myself in them. I know that doesn’t make sense. Even though I have several pairs, I rarely wear them.

But I also wasn’t wearing any makeup, so, glasses seemed like a good idea. Somehow my dingy little black tee shirt, leggings, and shaggy H&M vest, seemed almost, chic with a hot pink lip and glasses.

“You have to take pictures in this outfit,” Allan said. “You do look really pretty,” the lady in the Walgreens line ahead of us said, when we stopped in after the pop-up shop for Perrier.

I didn’t feel bloggy, but you know, I’m attempting to show my real New York life, so, eh.

I say all this to say, I’m not too old for this, I’m just not 21 anymore. My bounce back ain’t the way it once was. My stomach, either.

Minus a few chubby semesters Freshman year of college, I usually don’t have to do much but now it seems like I’m sucking in all the time.

This is what 28 looks like–post turn up with the girls, pre-fight night shenanigans—just trying to get my life together.

And cheating with lipstick and sunglasses, because it makes it look like I’m a lot more put together than I actually am.
