29 May I Don’t Care
My goal in life is to look like I don’t care.
I know there are people reading this who think this could correlate to my actual personality because I can be a bit tough to read. Listen, living in New York, you see all sorts of crazy things everyday, you’d get a good p-p-p-poker face, too.
In this instance, I just mean I want to look pulled together, effortlessly so.
That’s why my sleeves are always carelessly pushed up, my pants rolled haphazardly, my lipstick bright and applied straight from the tube.
And my hair. Well, I’m finally starting to feel like I know what I’m doing (since I’ve been natural, I mean).
I’ve been trying to get the perfect loose yet imperfect-looking waves. Too tight and I’ll look like Shirley Temple (and 12), too loose and I’ll look like I got caught in a rain storm without an umbrella. Then other times, like in today’s photos, I’ve been leaving it straight.
Big, without any curl.
The quest to achieve this look, coincidently makes me feel my prettiest.
There is just something to me about water hitting my hair and making my curls spring to life. Though I prefer my hair straight, I’m always amazed when it comes to life, as I wash it in the shower, bouncing along as I dance to whatever happens to be blasting from my blue little Bose speaker. Stevie Wonder, those ASAP boys, Marvin Sapp, Chris Brown—though, I wouldn’t advise twerking in the shower.
I almost skid on Optimum Amla Legend Moisture Remedy shampoo and saw my life flash before my eyes listening to “Loyal.”
Because it’s been awhile since we talked hair, the Amla Legend system: Moisture Remedy shampoo, Moisture Remedy conditioner, Silky Blow Out masque, Blow Out Elixir, and Rejuvenating Oil paired used with my handheld dryer allows me to straighten my hair and not damage my curl pattern.
In a word, it’s perfect.
I knew I’d reached effortlessly put together mecca, when our office manager told me I looked like I belonged in a Madewell catalog.
I beamed.

Now granted, Im sure the perforated leather dresses, flight jacket and nude pumps—I wore my Clark desert boots as my commute shoes—did the trick, but I like to think it’s because of my hair. And the piece that I had tucked behind my ear, to hide the frizz, was just the touch I needed to make me look like I don’t care.
