03 Feb Why Don’t You… Make the Most of Your Time in Bed?
Why Dont You is my weekly tribute to legendary editor Diana Vreeland who penned a column of the same name for Harpers Bazaar for 26 years begging, Dont just be your ordinary dull self. Why dont you be ingenious and make yourself into something else?
I dont know about you, but I have a hard time making my bed feel like a serene space these days. Blame living in a studio or in a nation that elected Donald Trump as President of the United States, either way, I need some help shifting the energy where I lay down to sleep.
I love Sand & Sand, a magazine dedicated to the strangeness of sleep, and the vibe that founder Verena Michelitsch has created around it. I reached out to her for a few tips we can use to make the most of our time in bed, which is apparently the latest thing. Add getting 10 solid hours of good, clean sleep to that list with hygge and kondo-ing.
It’s most important to feel comfortable and make going to bed a positive and relaxing experience, Michelitsch said. I personally like to keep my bedroom minimalistic. I don’t have a lot of art on the wall or things standing around. All of my sheets are white, earth- or gray- toned. Im picky about choosing natural and soft fabrics.
Making the bed every morning, letting fresh air in before going to bed, and changing sheets weekly, pillowcases every other day help make me feel comfortable in my bedroom, she continued.
Before going to bed I often have some tea. Recently stopped taking my phone into my bedroom. Now I started to keep any electronics outside my bedroom. I rather read a magazine or book and I doze off much better.
And as for what shes wearing the between the sheets? [There] is this NY brand called RUDAS [that] creates beautiful idle wear, robes, pajamas and sleep shirts. I love the materials and silhouettes. Plus its made in New York. Also, I like Sleepy Jones. But most of the times I sleep in cotton underwear and an old T-Shirt.
Yeah, same.
But now Im definitely going to kick my laptop out of the bed and invest in some big girl jammies.
