08 May I Want to Live Like (and Inside) Linda Fargo’s Bergdorf Goodman’s Shop
Linda Fargo is one of those New Yorkers, not unlike the people in my 5 Style Lessons series, who seem to have it all together, style-wise. She knows who she isnt and isnt afraid to wear it on her sleeve. Not to mention, shes aspirational as hell. Shes got the wardrobe and the career to match.
To celebrate 20 years at Bergdorf Goodman, the department stores senior vice president, womens fashion director and store presentation curated Lindas at Bergdorf Goodman. A 600-square foot shop-in-shop on the fourth floor. It’s filled with beauty products, ready-to-wear, vintage pieces, books and art that will change quarterly. Honestly, its what I imagine Lindas apartment looks like.
I wanted this to be a place that people would maybe just hang out, Linda said. With no pressure to buy anything if they wanted to just be there. Men float by with trays of drinks (Lindas favorite pink champagne and bergamot tea) plus there are dishes full of sour lips candy. I kind of settled on the idea of a fantasy closet: Lindas fantasy closet.
Its definitely my fantasy closet apartment, too tbh. I dont know what it is about this place. Whenever I walk through the store, I feel like all those dreams that brought me to New York (almost five years ago!) are still possible. And I know thats a *lot* to give a store full of stuff. But its true.
Shop the look: ASOS Suede Trench (Sold out), American Apparel V-Neck T-shirt (RIP), J.Crew Wide-Leg Wool Pants (Sold Out), Louis Vuitton Sac Plat Tote, Zara Tie-Up Flats, Lanvin Chain Link Earrings (via The Real Real), YSL Le Orange Lipstick ($37)
I felt the same way after I read Bergdorf personal shopper Betty Halbreich’s personal memoir, I’ll Drink to That. Remember her? She stole the show in Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorfs. Afterward, I immediately wanted to walk through the store and envision living my best, most fashionable life. Her book is a true testament to how clothing can renew your purpose and sense of self.
So, definitely go for Lindas shop and the sour lip candies but be sure to thumb through Bettes book, too. Its actually laugh-out-loud funny. Im not ashamed to say I cried more than once, either. You might too when you read the way she felt like her appearance was the only thing holding her together.
SHOP THE POST:
Oh, and be sure try something on. Apparently, there are kimonos instead of robes in the dressing rooms. I wish I would have but that just means Ill have to take another trip back to indulge in the decadence. That wouldnt be the worst thing in the world.
Finally, if you cant make it into the store, a selection of Lindas is available online. Click here to shop.
Bergdorf Goodman is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sundays at 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 754 Fifth Avenue in Midtown.
