Sometimes, I’m champagne, and others, I’m Hennessy.*

Specifically, Veuve Clicquot at the Ritz Carlton, for what appears to be an annual gathering for a belated birthday celebration.

Together, my girls, my mom and her other favorite girl—Ms. Cynthia—came together for a sophisticated outing that brought tea, tears, sage advice, and delicious gossip all in the name of high tea.

I like this New York tradition, Mom.

I’m thankful to these women for letting me be who I want to be, when I want to be it. It’s rare thing to have in a group of friends.

Ms. Cynthia noticed, too. “It’s really a blessing to have such a support system here!” And nice for her to be able to put a face to the names that she and my mom pray for.

She’s right, though. It isn’t lost on me that I’m at an age where people are getting married, having babies, or trying to get their careers on the right path. No one has an abundance of free time. Maintaining a friendship takes work and I’m happy to have people in my life worth the effort, who think the same of me.
