09 Oct Fashion’s New Favorite
I legit hate Soho. It’s overwrought with tourists looking for Dash. It’s turning into Times Square, really, forcing the fashion scene even further downtown.
The South Street Seaport is having a moment. Angel and I confirmed this when we ventured to the 1 train’s last stop to celebrate Seaport Studios Opening Pop Up.
“The re-envisoned Seaport District will be a vibrant, highly engaging area while providing a critical catalyst for the revitalization of Lower Manhattan,” explained the (real estate company that owns the property) Howard Hughes Corporation’s CEO, David Weinreb. “It’s creating a one-of-a-kind experience incorporating the best that New York has to offer entertainment, culture, shopping and dining in a development that is economically viable while effectively meeting the needs of the neighborhood and showcasing the Seaport as a treasured part of New York City’s past and future.”
In short, the Seaport Studios (and it’s new location, natch) is a showcase of ‘who’s got next.’
This particular August night designers Feiyue, Lemlem, Timo Weiland (he DJ’ed!), and Sold & Striped welcomed guests like Real Housewives of New York City’s Kelly Bensimon, Timo Weiland co-found/creative director Alan Eckstein, The Style Scout Alia Ahmed-Yahia, New York Observer contributor Zach Weiss.
The Seaport Studios will join the Solange-approved stores Brother Vellies and William Okpo. Neighbors like Conde Nast, Refinery29, Time Inc., Revlon and Etsy solidify the move—fashion is definitely heading downtown.
Below, I made you a map of must-sees in fashion’s new favorite ’hood.
