12 Apr Hey Beauty Brands, Why Don’t You Love Me?
Lately, I have been feeling like channeling my girl Bey, and dialing up some of my favorite beauty brands, and asking, ‘Why don’t you love me?’
Well not me, per say, but my fellow brown beauty bloggers.
Before I make a purchase, or begin to look into something, I google it to see if I can find images of the said product on faces that look like mine.
For instance, beauty editors everywhere have been buzzing about Chanel’s new Rouge Coco Shine Lipsticks.
They look pretty amazing, right? I decided I need to know more, except in my research, I find no one whose face resembles mine.
And it’s not just me.
My mother read an article on StyleList about the perfect nude shade of nail polish. She wants to know if this polish will work on her shade of brown. We google. We find nothing.
The polish was Deborah Lippman Naked. My mother ended up buying it. She loves it. Go figure.
I am fully aware that we could just head to the department store ourselves and see if the product works for us, but it would just be nice to see certain brands reaching out to brown bloggers, they way they do others.
We like makeup too! We like to see it swatched on skin tones that resemble our own!
Why don’t you love us? Why don’t you love brown beauty bloggers?
Am I ranting for no reason? Are there beauty bloggers who review makeup other than MAC?
Please, let a girl know!
UPDATED: So my friend Christina tells me that it is scientifically proven that Latinos, followed by African Americans spend the most money on cosmetics.
Cosmetic companies? You really need to start reaching out to bloggers who look like your consumer base. No, seriously. You do.
