5 Style Lessons Courtesy of Rihanna

Here on The City, we are all about cultivating personal style, luckily, we can look to some of our favorite celebrities for a few style lessons.

Not only does Rihanna talk that talk— hehe, I couldn’t help it– but she walks the walk when it comes to her sense of style. She is fun, edgy, daring and I have long admired it.

She was the inspiration for my elongated bob with bangs my junior year in college when she went all good girl gone bad. Since shedding that cookie cutter image, Rihanna’s style has been constantly evolving. I’d love to be able to reinvent myself the way she does. Perhaps with these tips, I can.

1. Always Keep Them Guessing

When Rihanna first came out she was pretty blah. I can’t even remember one of her songs (lies, SOS used to be my jam). But then she chopped her hair off and found a unique sense of style. Again, and again. She seems to switch it up with every album but it isn’t a bad thing.

2. Leopard Is Always A Yes

I love this because I tend to see leopard as a neutral too. Or a way to quickly add a little umph to an outfit. I even like the leopard on leopard she has going on there.

3. Your Hair Could Be Your Best Accessory

I tend to suffer from low self-esteem when my hair doesn’t cooperate. I don’t want to wear a cute outfit, I don’t want to put for the effort because I know my hair will just mess it up. Rihanna shows that your hair can truly be one of your best accessories, if your hair is right the outfit hardly even matters (lies, but you know, not as much).

4. Nail Polish Is Fun

Right after Rihanna cut her hair, I paid attention to her more and noticed that she always had on a fun nail polish or design. I like that she isn’t afraid to experiment with her nails. Lately, she’s seems to be into ‘stiletto nails.’

5. She Isn’t Afraid Of Comfy

Don’t you admire a girl who doesn’t feel the need to be (funky) dressed to impress (ready to paaarty) every single time she goes outside? Even knowing that cameras will stalk her every move? I do. Plus, she always looks cute in her sneakers.

What do you think of Rihanna’s style? Are you still loving it? Or am I the only one?

    The Absent Game

Concerning me and my husband we have owned far more MP3 gamers over the years than I can count, which includes Sansas, iRivers, iPods (common & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few several years I’ve settled down to one line of gamers.
