I have a soft spot in my heart for funny girls. I love to be around people who aren’t afraid to be goofy. In my mind Mindy Kaling is one of those girls. And we’d be friends. And shop and talk about out purchases on the phone. Remember her blog, Things I Bought That I Love? That’s when I realized that Mindy wasn’t just the funny girl obsessed with Ryan on The Office.

She was stylish. I’m excited to see her doing so well with her show, The Mindy Project (New Girl and TMP, isn’t that a good night??) because I can get my stylish fix once a week.

Here are five style lessons we can take from her.

3. It’s Okay to be a Little Bit of Everything

I feel like sometimes, women are placed in this monolithic box. And can’t be anything but what it’s that box. That could be said of a lot of things, not just women actually. But when Mindy was asked to describe this outfit that she is wearing to her launch party for her show, she said, “mixed patterns, colored shirts, bling and kind of conventional too.” How perfect is that? And I am totally going to try to recreate this look for my self with my ‘fo leather skirt.

5. It’s Fine to be Girly

I’m not sure when it happened that enjoying things like glossy nails or expensive high heels and mascara made you less smart. That if you were considered smart, you kind of negated that fact with all the girly stuff. Am I the only one who’s noticed this? (I completely have a theory on this but now is not the time.) It seems like more and more women are so hard. Masculine in the way that they speak, their mannerisms, they way they carry themselves. I think the one thing that I have been reiterating  through out all of these style lessons is that you can be you, exactly as you are and succeed. Mindy was one of the writers for The Office, did you know that? Stylish and funny in her Louboutins.
