10 Apr New York, You’re All Right With Me
This isn’t a Dear New York post, it’s too early in the month, but the strangest yet pleasant things have been happening. And I want to share. Just incase you thought New York was all pee-ridden subway stations and people on the street who don’t speak. Well, that part about the subway stations is true.
There are kind people here. Boys who will carry 100 pound bookcases up 4 flights of stairs. Neighbors from across the complex who will hand-deliver mail accidentally left in their box. And knock on your box to introduce themselves. And tell you they Googled you and stumbled upon your blog, that they it genuine yet funny. Who exchange emails with you to give to their granddaughter who also blogs. There will be ladies on the bus, who strike up conversation and you find truly interesting. There was one in particular, Monday morning, who liked the way I was dressed and asked if I was an artist. I told her no, just a fashion writer. She said it’s the same thing. We had numerous similarities and I couldn’t believe I found such a person at 9:15am waiting for the M79. I exchanged emails with her, too.
So don’t believe it when people say that New York is all rudeness and crime. There are good people here. People who introduce themselves and tell you they are working on a project for the New York Film Academy and want to take your picture. I met a boy from France who would like to continue to shoot me for his project. I agreed, if could also post the pictures on my blog. Obviously, we exchanged emails, and he even passed it along to a girl in his class who also stopped me to take my picture for her project. Actually, they took the pictures you see today.
I have yet to meet a stranger here. I used to joke that there must be something written on my face that lets people know that I am all ears and ready to hear their life stories. Now, in New York, I think it’s kind of nice. I like it, even.
New York, you surprise me some times–and that’s all right with me.

Posted at 04:32h, 11 AprilAw there is nothing more refreshing or humbling then acts of kindness such as these. Even for me reading this I find it uplifting to know that general kindness is still alive in a city as big as New York 🙂 I must say how lovely these photos are also 🙂
Take care,
Daniella,xox
