You Disapprove of Me…

You Disapprove of Me…

Guise, I have basically turned my shoe-boxed sized room into a closet. I’ve hung my bags and skirts on the wall above my bed–perhaps this could be a video?

My point in telling you this was, that every morning, as I snooze my alarm for half an hour (it would make more sense to set the alarm for 8am, right??) I glance up at my wall and pick a skirt to wear that day. So on this particular day, I look up, hit snooze to buy more time–just make sure I don’t fall back asleep–and see an American Apparel skirt with the tag still on it.

“Oh, I haven’t worn that since I got it during the Cotton photo shoot?”  “Done,” I thought to myself. ‘Do I have time to shave my legs?’ was my next thought before I finally lept out of the bed.

Fast-forward 30 minutes, my legs are shaved, I’ve made my face look decent (I’m trying out this new primer from Benefit, so far so good!) and I apply my new favorite concoction to my legs before I pull the skirt on with a chambray top: Jo Malone Red Roses bath oil diluted with water in a spray bottle. Smells heavenly and the oil mixed with the water is perfect for summer.

All I need to do is brush my teeth and I can be out the door for M79 bus that will take me to the 6 train. On the way to the bathroom, I notice the skirt rides up a bit when I walk. It’s literally 5 steps from my room to the bathroom, so this means this striped high-waisted number might be too short wear to work. “Nah,” I tell myself as I wipe my mouth on my hot pink towel. The combat boots and longer sleeves balance it out.

I sling my bag over my shoulder and start to speed walk to the bus stop holding the hem of the skirt just so I don’t give anyone a show, I arrive just before the bus pulls up, and this lady, rocking a baby on her hip, looks me up and down, disapprovingly.

I have entirely too much fun in my own head, when I saw her face, I had Holly Golightly’s voice in my head, “You dissssssssappppprooove of me!” I wanted to laugh out loud but then she really would have looked at me crazy.

DAH. WELL.

fabulous

When was the last time someone looked at you crazy?

I know those looks darling! I used to work at Bebe in college. I used to hate to walk through the mall on my lunch break because I would always get the side eye. Inside the store I fit in, I dressed the part for the merchandise we sold. In the store I was serving, outside old ladies and moms eyed me with disdain.

In the words of Beyonce, you are Grown Woman. I love gif at the end. lol

Lol! I can just see this all happening in my head. But I got sideeyed today…I have on camo leggings and this army green studded vest and my combat boots and i guess some people don’t enjoy studs like normal people such as myself. #serenashrug

Ha! Well, I think the skirt is adorable! I get those looks from older women when the first warm-ish day comes between winter and spring and I bust out a skirt or dress with no tights. They look at me like I’m a hoochie, but I’m like psshh, if the sun is out and it’s above 50 degrees, the gams are coming out!

Right, they’re like honey, where are your tights, you’ll catch cold! Smh

Lol @ that older woman getting upset. We all get those looks. I personally love to give them those looks back. I would NEVER wear tights in 90 degree weather…not going to happen! Anyhow, you look cute, I love the skirt and that you paired with combat boots.

I’m going to have to learn to give them right back! Wear tights in the summer? No MA’AM! Thank you, Famed in Fashion 🙂

I get those looks all the time when I am on the train with my friend. We both look pretty young and our conversation is always mature. They look at us like we are crazy when they shouldn’t be ear-hustling.
