NYFW, The First 48

NYFW, The First 48

You guys. New York Fashion Week almost over. Originally, I felt less stressed than last year, but I think feel like I have a lot to prove, plus add in the fact that I’m perpetually hungry, cold and tired. Last week, I made the grave mistake of drinking of an empty stomach, which, is horrible thing to do normally, but just plain dumb during Fashion Week.

But, Thursday was my birthday and well… I’ll stop talking so much and tell you exactly how this happened. Consider this the first 48, NYFW edition.

Thursday, Feb, 6 at 7:45 a.m. My alarm goes off. I can’t get up without snoozing at least twice. I need those two-eight-minute intervals of sleep. Don’t judge.

8:00 a.m. Stephanie is calling. Is she hurt?? Did something happen?? No, it’s my birthday. I almost forgot.

8:07 a.m. I better get in the shower if I want to start my new year with shaven legs.

9:30 a.m. Dressed in all black (like an omennnnnn) I head out of my apartment to hail a cab to take me to work. This is a special occasion.

9:40 a.m. Come back upstairs to get a pair of combat boots. I’m not about to bust my behind walking on this icy sidewalk.

10:20 a.m. Make it into work. Check Women’s Wear Daily, Fashionista and British Vogue while scheduling Tweets for the day. Make coffee and start writing news blurbs for Glam.com.

11:00 a.m. Head to Katie Gallagher at the High Line Hotel with my co-worker Lauren. The show’s audience was filled with edgy, cool people, who’s style I wish I could emulate. The collection was all about onyx, oxblood and black tracksuits, crop tops and sheer layers. Ebony’s Jackie Yates was seated next to us, and I tell her on the way out I wish I was cool enough to pull off some of the pieces, before hopping in a cab and heading back to the office.

12:20 p.m. If I don’t eat now, I won’t (and don’t–more on this later) for the rest of the day. I walk to Fresh & Co to grab my usual Aegean salad, hold the tomatoes, with Lauren. In less than an hour I will have to head to Whit with my boss.

1:00 p.m. A man carrying flowers with a cigarette in. his. mouth. comes to the back door looking for Channing. “Well, it must be your lucky day,” he tells me as he hands me the vase after I sign for the delivery.

2:00 p.m. Make it to Whit before the presentation ends with my boss. I snap photos of the looks I like for Instagram and wait my turn to speak to the designer, Whitney Pozgay.

2:35 p.m. Back to the office. So much writing to do, it isn’t funny. Also, I want to schedule Tweets for Glam’s Twitter so that we are updating 24 hours a day during #NYFW.

3:40 p.m. Another flower delivery arrives, this time, from my #GlamFam… much posing and staging takes place trying to capture the perfect image to upload onto Instagram.

4:00 p.m. Wait, Valis is here! With Magnolia cupcakes! More staging must take place. This time to include the J.Crew necklace my boss had sitting on her desk that she just gave me.

4:40 p.m. Finally, everyone is taking a break to have a piece of cupcake. I’m typically not a icing kind of girl, but I’ll make an exception for Magnolia.

7:00 p.m. Glam.com’s edit team is headed out for the Peter Pilotto Shopping event at Gotham Hall. My boss Uber’s us a ride, but first, we must document the fact that we are all wearing black. This is a big moment for me, rarely does this happen.

7: 15 p.m. Uber is still not here. And we still have not mastered the perfect group shot to upload to Instagram. We ask the door man to try it for us again. Close but no cigar, the our car is here, anyway.

7:20 p.m. Five of us load into the large black SUV to meet the other three members of our team at the party. We’re not even off our block when the car in front of us stalls. Uh oh, now the driver is out of the car, speaking to our driver. He wants help pushing the car.

7:27 p.m. We hop out, but take the advantage of the blocked off but street to, again, try to get this group shot. Do you realize how hard it is to get a decent picture from a stranger? This one is just as bad as the one before.

7:29 p.m. Valis runs up the block to try and hail us a cab.

7:34 p.m. Nothing yet, and we’re all cold. We head inside the Eventi hotel to wait until our next Uber driver arrives.

7:40 p.m. He’s here! Peter Pilotto shall be mine, at last!

7:42 p.m. Val can’t find her phone. I offer to go with her since the other ladies have the Red Truth Fashion show at 8 p.m. Back to the Eventi hotel we go!

8:15 p.m. Val has been looking up and down the street for the past 20 minutes. No sign of her phone. A cab pulls up next to us, and after glancing over, I deem that this woman has two iPhones, so surely one is my co-worker’s. I start banging on the window before hopping out of our car. Uh, just kidding, that’s not Val’s phone. Immediately hang my head and get back in the car.

8:30 p.m. Valis and the kind Uber driver are looking in piles of snow, a block up from the hotel where we were just standing. Still no phone, the ever-so-helpful Find my iPhone app says the phone hasn’t moved, so that’s promising. Still Val decides to just go get a replacement phone at Verizon.

8:35 p.m. When our driver drops Val off at the Verizon on 34th Street, I go until the Macy’s across the street to use the bathroom, as I speed walk inside, I ask Arianna if it’s too late to meet her at the writer mixer like we planned.

8:40 p.m. Val doesn’t have insurance on her phone, so she really has to find it. I walk back with her to the address with the Find-My-iPhone app said the phone was. I ask a shady looking man on the corner if he’s seen an iPhone with a OPI cover on the back. Of course, he tells me no. I look (with my eyes, not my hands) at the piles of trash on the curb–still don’t see it.

8:55 p.m. Val wants to check the office just to be sure she didn’t forget it. I want to thaw my hands and swipe on some more lipstick before I go meet Arianna.

9:02 p.m. Right before the elevator dings to the 10th floor, a text from my boss comes through, telling me to suggest we check the office. And what do you know. It’s sitting on her desk! Crisis averted.

9:05 p.m. Now, about that mixer.

9:15 p.m. My cab (paid for by Val, wasn’t that sweet?!) arrives in front of Lair. I text Arianna that I’m on my way inside.

9:20 p.m. We find each other and start to drink. It’s my birthday, remember?

nyfw-diary-day-1-channing-hargrove-blog-channing-in-the-city-8

9:45 p.m. After several interesting conversations with brown writers, we decide it’s time for another drink, rum and coke, for me. And a shot of Bacardi. And what’s that? A shot of Patron courtesy of our bartender? Oh, lawd.

[I’m going to save you all the gory details of what happens after this. But just know I made an absolute fool of myself, in front of a man I thought was cute. I may or may not have ridden in a car with my head out the window like a dog. I woke up at Arianna’s after convincing her that I could wear the same clothes I had on the day before to work–and Fashion Week. Not that I made it to any shows. By the time I made it to the office, I had to go home. My hair hurt. The moral of the story, eat before drinking, kids.]

2:00 p.m. I make it into the office, but barely. I schedule Tweets and try to write a show review. I feel like I might be sick.

nyfw-diary-day-1-channing-hargrove-blog-channing-in-the-city-10

4:30 p.m. Pack up my computer and Uber to get home. I told my boss and she understands. I just need some sleep and gatorade. I wasted such a good outfit, too.

9:45 p.m. I’m up and I’m alive. But barely. Roll over to place a Seamless.com order. Turkey bacon and a fruit smoothie, please!

2:00 a.m. My friend Yasmein surprised me, she came up from Delaware, from the birthday festivities my girls planned for me on Saturday. When she gets here, we order pizza, staying up talking while watching Sex and the City.

6:00 a.m. We finally get ready for bed and start to nod off. It’s a good thing I gave my Saturday show tickets to my coworkers. My body is just about ready to quit me.

Some start to NYFW, huh? Day 4 and 5 recap, coming soon!
