I can't remember why I took these pictures, but I was reading an old issue of Lucky magazine and cover girl Zooey Deschanel said something that reminded me of, well, me. “There’s this picture of me that I wish I could find,” she said. “I would buy...

I met with my Girls Write Now mentee on Sunday. She has a Scholastic essay competition that we’re getting ready for. We decided to combine two of our first prompts together to create a short story. When we were paired together at the start of the school...

Saturday will make it exactly three months since I was laid off. I’m not saying it for pity or sympathy. I’m okay. Really, I promise. In this really weird way, I’ve become whom I wanted to be when I first moved to New York City. I was...

‘Why Don’t You’ is my weekly tribute to legendary editor Diana Vreeland who penned a column of the same name for Harper’s Bazaar for 26 years begging, “Don’t just be your ordinary dull self. Why don’t you be ingenious and make yourself into something else?” Some people...

The other day I got to thinking—oh, hai Carrie Bradshaw, is that you? I always say that our appearances give off little clues to our inner workings, but do they really? I’ll use myself for an example. I’m in a transformative state. I can see that now....

If we’re to believe F. Scott Fitzgerald, life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall. Though, I will say, there is something about getting dressed once the air gets crisp that is exciting to me. It is a chance to begin again… but...

Wearing a flower crown and leather shorts I feel like Kanye West gets a bad rap—wait, wait. Hear me out. You probably should know up front that I will absolutely and freely admit that I am a Kanye West advocate. While I’m not joining the church of Yeezianity anytime soon, or ever for that matter, it must be acknowledged that man drops bombs. Plus, I like a man who isn’t afraid to take style risks. I mean, look at Kim. He changed her whole aesthetic and somehow, by the grace of Riccardo Tisci, got the fashion industry to forget she used to peddle Sketchers in Hervè Leger bandage dresses (see, I didn’t even have to mention that other thing).
A picnic perfect day in Central Park I always wonder why we’re drawn to the people we are. And why they seem to show up right when we need them—whether you realize it or not. I surely didn’t. When I first met Yasmein, we were seniors at Penn State, taking COMM 360. We were responsible for slicing together audio of quotes supporting our narrative that would, in turn, help us to become journalists.
I love this city, I hate it sometimes, too. In an effort to keep track of my feelings about the Big Apple during my time here I try my best to chronicle them in a letter to this crazy place. Welcome to Dear New York–a series posted monthly on the anniversary of the date I moved here.  Exclusively datin' the city Hi. My whole life I feel like I’ve been waiting on being here with you. The last four years, especially. And now I’m here. I don’t know if you noticed but I redid the blog. Just for you. I didn’t feel like the website served me anymore. Or gave insight into my growth as a person. I’ve always been a personal style blogger with an emphasis on the person.
